The Subaru oil drain washer should be replaced every time the oil is changed in an EJ20 and EJ25 engine. The aluminum washer is designed to crush and seal when torqued properly.
The Subaru cam bolt can be damaged during a timing belt service and may require replacement. Subaru cam bolt part#13199AA000 is used to secure the cam sprocket to the AVCS intake cams found on 2006-14 WRX, 2004-16 STI, 2005-12 Legacy GT and 2004-13 Forester XT. Cosworth's 12mm Oil Pump for the EJ20 and EJ25 Subaru is designed to increase overall volume, maintain pressure and provide enhanced oil control to aid in the dissipation of heat. A common problem exists with many high-performance engines, a significant amount of heat is flushed through the engine through the oil system. In order to counter this known issue, Cosworth takes apart an OEM oil pump, de-burrs critical areas to reduce flow restrictions. From there the pump is re-shimmed to increase oil pressure output before finally assembling it with the larger 12mm impeller for increased volume output by 20%.
Oil control can be a problem with high performance and high revving Subaru engines. High crankcase pressure along with the horizontal engine platform restricts rapid oil return from the cylinder heads to the oil pan. Pressure builds in the heads and crankcase causing massive blow by and power loss. Cosworth engineered their Oil Pan Baffle with diverters to control oil returning from the cylinder heads to the pan directing it away from the crankshaft. In addition, one-way valves prevent oil from re-entering the upper crankcase chamber and thus limiting blow-by and preventing oil starvation during hard driving. The baffles are manufactured from stainless steel and install between the block and oil pan on both EJ20/EJ25 series Subaru engines.
